A meaningful day at the Ronald McDonald House Amsterdam

A day of cooking, gardening and giving back. Together with our colleagues and relations, we volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House Amsterdam and left feeling inspired by this remarkable place and the families it supports.

A meaningful day at the Ronald McDonald House Amsterdam

Recently, together with a group of colleagues and invited relations, we rolled up our sleeves at the Ronald McDonald House next to the Emma Children's Hospital in Amsterdam. It was a day that left a lasting impression on everyone who took part.

The Ronald McDonald House next to the Emma Children's Hospital is a home away from home for families of seriously ill children who are being treated at the hospital. What struck us immediately was how warm, thoughtful and homely the building is. Not an institution, but a genuine home — with a shared kitchen, comfortable spaces to find a moment of peace, and rooms where parents, brothers and sisters can stay close to their sick child. The care with which everything has been arranged, and the dedication of the team that runs the House, is truly impressive. You can feel right away why this place is so essential to the families who stay there, often during one of the most difficult periods of their lives.

We were able to contribute in two ways. One part of the group headed into the kitchen and prepared a full Italian three-course buffet for the families. We started with an extensive selection of fresh salads and Italian antipasti, followed by two types of pasta as the main course, and rounded things off with a homemade tiramisu. Everything was prepared with plenty of love, attention and the necessary good cheer in the kitchen.

The rest of the group got stuck in outside, working hard in the garden. Hedges were trimmed, weeds were thoroughly cleared, and by the end of the day the garden looked fresh, well cared for and inviting once again — ready for the residents and their children to enjoy it to the full. It was hard work, but above all incredibly rewarding to be able to make a concrete contribution in this way.

We would like to sincerely thank all of our colleagues and the invited relations for their effort, energy and commitment. This day would not have been possible without you. It was special not only to do something good together, but also to get to know each other in a completely different way — in the kitchen, with our hands in the soil, and around the table. A special word of thanks goes to the team at the Ronald McDonald House Amsterdam for their warm welcome and for the important work they do every single day.
